Management Development Opportunities

We offer a 3 year management trainee programme.

Year one:

Food and Beverage

Year two:

Housekeeping and Front of House

Year three:

Support Departments including Sales & Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and 6 month supervisory experience in your chosen area of interest.

    • Under-Graduate Programme
      Designed in association with the Dublin Institute of Technology, this programme offers structured training at five-star level, together with an intensive three-year degree course at one of Ireland’s premier hospitality colleges.
    • Post-Graduate Programme
      Designed specifically for the individual needs of the trainee, this structured programme combines five star training with a post-graduate qualification in Hospitality Management.

Placement / Internship Opportunities

The Merrion offers a number of exciting placement opportunities for students studying hospitality.

We welcome a number of placement students throughout the year. Placement meetings are held on a monthly basis to ensure students are trained and developed during their time with us.

Below are the placement opportunities that The Merrion provides:

  • Food & Beverage Placement: Students work in 1 – 2 of our Food and Beverage departments, depending on the length of the placement. Students must be available for a minimum of four – six months.
  • Kitchen Placement: Students have an opportunity to gain experience in either our main kitchen or pastry kitchen. Students must be available for a minimum of three months.
  • Housekeeping Placement: Students begin in the role of Housekeeping Assistant, with opportunities to gain experience at Supervisory level. Experience can also be gained in our in-house laundry department. Students must be available for a minimum of one year.
  • Front of House Placement: Students gain experience in Reception and Concierge during their time with us. Students must be available for a minimum of one year.

Training

With over 300 members of staff, each and every one is given the attention and time necessary to build a strong team of people who love what they do. You will be trained by some of the best people in the industry so you get the necessary skills that will serve you well in a career in 5 star hospitality.

We do this by providing a full training programme to new employees including a full induction day at the Hotel, where you are introduced to the policies and procedures of the hotel.
